Event Report on “Back to the Roots”

On October 17, 2015, we held a collaborative event “Back to the Roots” at an African restaurant, Yinega in Shibuya, Tokyo. We are grateful that our event filled this fine restaurant to capacity!

“Back to the Roots” was kicked off by a presentation by Ms. Chie Murakami, Director General of DFP, who discussed pertinent issues in relation to diamonds and DFP’s activities. The second presenter was Dr. Tomohiko Sugishita, Director General of the voluntary group, SU*TE*KI. Dr. Tomohiko Sugishita gave an informative talk about witchcraft and drums as well as childbirth in Africa. After the presentations, participants while sharing experiences and knowledge related to Africa, enjoyed various kinds of West African food together.

Participants really got excited by the African music performances of musicians Mr. Benoit Millogo, of Burkina Faso and Mr. Ibrahim Konate of Cote d’Ivoire.

We are planning to organize such a vibrant event again so as to give everyone an enjoyable opportunity to learn more about Africa.

We would like to express our gratitude to all participants.
