30th Aug TICAD7 Side Event “Symposium on Artisanal Diamond Mining in West Africa”

Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) will be held from 28th to 30th August in Yokohama, Japan. Diamonds for Peace will hold an official side event “The Symposium on the Artisanal Diamond Mining in West Africa” as follows. Feel free to join us!

The Symposium on the Artisanal Diamond Mining in West Africa

[Introduction]

More than one million people are engaged in the artisanal mining worldwide with the majority in Africa. The artisanal diamond mining has many issues such as human rights violation, labor issues, and environment. We will watch the short documentary movie “Voices from the Mine,” listen to what experts say, and discuss about how these issues can be alleviated.

Bath University in U.K. has produced the movie “Voices from the Mine” and Diamonds for Peace has made Japanese subtitle under its permission.

  • The movie is in English with Japanese subtitle.
  • Presentation and discussions will probably be in Japanese. However, English translation will be provided through translating application and human translation if necessary.
