* On this Human Rights Day, we reflect on Article * On this Human Rights Day, we reflect on Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which affirms: "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of themselves and their family, including food, clothing, housing, medical care, and necessary social services, as well as security in cases of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other circumstances beyond their control." In Liberia’s impoverished mining regions, Diamonds for Peace works to help communities understand these rights and take steps toward achieving them. Wilmot Paye, the newly appointed Minister of Mines and Energy, and Hon. Williams S. Hines, Deputy Minister for Operations. The candid discussions focused on ways to improve Liberia's diamond industry. We are encouraged by their commitment to addressing the challenges and look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to drive meaningful change in the sector. * "Safe toilets for all by 2030” is a core targe * "Safe toilets for all by 2030” is a core target of Sustainable Development Goal 6, yet, according to recent UN data, 3.5 billion people still lack access to safely managed sanitation, with 419 million practicing open defecation. Diamonds for Peace has launched educational programs within small mining communities in Liberia, raising awareness on the health risks associated with poor hygiene. This year, thanks to generous support from Ikuo Shibuya, Tota Koyama (@totakoyama), @tokyopearl_official, and Japan Fund for Global Environment (@erca_kikin), we’ve renovated toilet facilities at the only school in Weasua.
