Join us in creating a more sustainable and equitable diamond industry. Diamonds for Peace (DFP) is seeking passionate individuals to join our year-long internship program. As an intern, you can gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector and contribute to meaningful social change.

2. Positions and Location of Internship
– Mining Engineering Intern: your country of residence and Liberia (see 3.1)
– Awareness Raising Intern: your country of residence (see 3.2)
3. Program
3.1 Mining Engineering Intern (one position)
Diamonds for Peace has a prototype of a simple machine made with locally available resources in Liberia to make the artisanal diamond washing process more efficient. As DFP needs to optimize the machine, the intern will develop a plan for optimization, and execute the plan in an artisanal diamond mine in Liberia. The intern will have a small workshop and will educate artisanal diamond miners and diggers on more efficient and environmentally friendly mining practices, if time allows. If the intern is equipped with knowledge and skills in prospecting without using expensive tools/equipment, s/he will monitor the ongoing prospecting activities and make realistic suggestions to the artisanal diamond miners.
The intern needs to travel to Liberia sometime between November and February for 2 to 3 weeks. We will set the dates after mutual consultation.
Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, geology, or related field
- Physically fit to execute the job in a rural diamond mine in Liberia
Deliverable (in English):
- Detailed plan of activities
- Optimized machine
- Handout for artisanal diamond miners
- Report on the activities in Liberia including machine optimization and monitoring
- Article at the end of the internship to be published on DFP’s website
DFP will bear the cost of:
- Traveling to Liberia
- Accommodation
- Transportation in Liberia
- Travel insurance
- Visa
- Malaria prevention tablets
The intern will bear the cost of:
- Food while traveling
- Vaccination as needed
3.2 Awareness Raising Intern (several positions)
To make a difference in the diamond industry, it is essential to raise diamond buyers’/consumers’ awareness. The interns will develop and execute a plan to hold events (in-person or online) and/or exhibit in fairs related to jewelry or international development. They will do this in cooperation with other interns/volunteers who may live in the same area. DFP staff/volunteers will also collaborate with the interns in doing so.
If the intern is in Japan, s/he will help DFP exhibit in a side event at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, to be held in late August 2025 in Yokohama.
Criteria:
- University students, post-graduate students, or those who already have a bachelor’s degree
- Can commit to spending at least one day (7 hours) per week (28 hours a month) for the internship
Deliverable:
- Detailed plan of activities with budget
- Draft script for your talk during the events
- Social media posts on the events
- Event reports
DFP will bear the cost of:
- Exhibition
- Events
- Local transportation
4. Certificate
All the successful interns who complete the program will receive the Certificate of Completion at the end of March 2026.
